A couple with a passion for food & wine...

Roseanna & Morgwn Preston-Jones

Redwood Wines is a sophisticated and friendly neighborhood wine shop and bar situated in the idyllic village of Dunkeld. Handcrafted charcuterie alongside delectable small plates of food that perfectly pair with the wine on offer.

"We chose the name Redwood wines for it's Californian connection to the giant redwoods and our location in Dunkeld surrounded by lush, dense Pine forests. We often walk the local trails surrounded by these towering trees, discussing and sharing our ideas for the business and relishing in our luck at living in such a beautiful part of Scotland."

Nestled in an old post office, the space evokes the town’s history while looking to the future. The location just on the high street of Dunkeld offers a rare and unique opportunity for any business. The mission is to make wine accessible and fun by discovering smaller boutique vintners as well as exploring more classical vignerons. Taking an educational approach, we aim to take the pressure out of choosing the right wine and instead make it fun.

We are as passionate about food as we are about wine, alongside house-made charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, preserves, and organic produce, we will offer a weekly changing menu of inventive riffs on wine bar classics—all driven by the best of the season. Quality ingredients and food made with love; with a focus on working with local and sustainable farms, fisheries, mills, and ranches will help to promote the area’s best.

Owners, Roseanna and Morgwn Preston-Jones first met in New York city in 2006. They worked together in a small coffee shop called 'Hope & Union' in Brooklyn while hustling through college and work gigs. They always dreamt of owning their own business together since these early days together back in the US.

Morgwn Preston-Jones is originally from Oakland, California. Morgwn learned his craft from working in kitchens in New York, San Francisco, and London. After working at Moro in London, he took over the kitchens at Bedales Wines and produced seasonal and locally sourced dishes. Working in the heart of Borough Market and working with high quality purveyors has continued his expanding knowledge base of ingredients and cooking techniques. Morgwn’s knowledge in wine grew with this experience and led him to achieve his official wine training. Working with the wine team, he created intimate wine and food tastings and events.

Within Morgwn's extended family are two of Napa valley's most prominent wineries, Groth and Silver Oak. The experience of enjoying wine is very much a family affair and we want to create a culture in our shop that reflects that sense of family.

"We are excited to bring California wines to our shop offering. It will be a diverse wine list with a host of unique bottles."

Roseanna Preston-Jones is a Dunkeld native and has always considered her ‘heart to be in the Highlands’. She has always loved the community spirit and connection to nature the small village provides. Roseanna’s career has spanned several creative sectors. Her customer-facing roles have gained Roseanna polished skills in luxury service and hospitality, having previously worked for renowned British jewellers Boodles and Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh. Taking the helm in the front of house, Roseanna plans to establish a personal, attentive approach to customer service alongside an in -depth training program for the team.

"Customer experience is where my passion lies, the opportunity to combine my love for truly exceptional service and fantastic food & wine is the dream come true."

The design of the space reflects the heritage and story of its place. Minimalist and uncluttered in its décor in order to keep the focus on the experience and to create a fun and warm atmosphere. Clean lines and a warm colour palette to evoke its Scottish heritage. Table settings are meant to be simple and clean. Hand thrown, Scottish earthenware plates and bowls alongside locally made wooden boards. Sophisticated glassware to heighten the experience. Elegant and relaxed.

The bar tops are made for large slabs of old Scottish oak, sourced locally from Murthly castle estate.

The space is authentic to the couples personal style and tastes. You could easily visit to the sounds of Herbie Hancock one day and Metallica the next. Just as you may discover Morgwn's signature beef tartare or a loved up taco, added spontaneously to the menu on a Friday night.

Redwood Wines philosophy is to cultivate a wine destination by providing an approachable selection to attract all customs. Bringing together a casual atmosphere enhanced by the central location that will draw residents and visitors alike. Whether hosting intimate tastings or larger gatherings, the approach is simple; making people comfortable talking about wine. Relieve the pressure and snobbery of the wine world and make it fun, easy, educational, and accessible.

Redwood Wines opened in July 2021.
